PrepTest 141, Section 2, 3. Some video game makers...
Difficulty: 🌕🌑🌑🌑
How will the right answer fit in terms of support and conclusion?
Only the right answer will accurately describe a flaw in the argument. But you usually don't even need to know what the flaw is, since only the right answer will accurately describe the support and conclusion.
Highlight the main conclusion in the passage, if there is one:
this move is rarely good from a business perspective.
[BACKGROUND]. However, [CONCLUSION]. After all, [SUPPORT]. [SUPPORT].
Map the wording of the answers to the wording of the passage:
(A) Does the passage "draw a general conclusion"? Yes, it says a thing companies do is rarely a good move. Is the support "just one individual case"? Yup, only the one video game maker and the one game is mentioned. Let's hang onto this one.
(B) Does the conclusion say "a product will be disliked by the public"? Nope, it only said that's what happened in the example about Nostroma. If you're not clear, "infers" always maps to the conclusion.
(C) Please stop reading at "restates". None of the statements in the passage are repeats.
(D) This says two things will have "roughly equal popularity" but the passage explains that one thing was a lot less popular than another. That doesn't align well at all.
(E) The author never mentioned "a requirement for a product to be popular". This answer is talking about mixing up sufficient and necessary conditions. I expect you to see that there aren't any conditions in the passage.
(A) is the correct answer.
